Computing

The Computing curriculum is organised around three key strands: Computer Science, Information Technology, and Digital Literacy, with E-Safety integrated throughout, using the Project Evolve framework. Each of these strands builds progressively over time, ensuring children develop a broad and deep understanding of technology. The curriculum introduces core concepts such as programming, algorithms, and data handling, while also equipping children with practical skills to use technology effectively. Digital Literacy focuses on helping students use technology confidently and responsibly, while E-Safety, guided by Project Evolve, ensures that children understand how to stay safe online, recognise risks, and behave responsibly in digital spaces.

The key strands within the Computing curriculum provide the essential knowledge and understanding that children need to become skilled and responsible users of technology. These strands are arranged hierarchically, with each key stage building on previous learning. In Computer Science, children begin by learning the basics of coding and computational thinking, progressing to creating more complex programs and understanding algorithms. In Information Technology, they develop practical skills in using software applications, managing data, and creating digital content. Digital Literacy empowers students to navigate the digital world confidently, focusing on how technology can be used for communication, creativity, and problem-solving.

E-Safety, embedded across the curriculum with the Project Evolve framework, ensures that children are equipped with the knowledge and skills to stay safe online. Through this approach, students learn how to protect their privacy, recognise online dangers, and make safe and responsible decisions when using technology. This progressive structure ensures that children not only develop technical expertise but also the critical understanding necessary to use technology safely and ethically.
